About us

A compact recording studio in Westerpark, founded in 2020, run by engineers who mix, master and schedule sessions themselves.

Why we chose this building

Molgulaxeno sits in a former warehouse on Haarlemmerweg, street level beside wide windows. That makes loading instruments and rolling cases straightforward, including evening sessions when we are open until 21:00.

We avoided a maze of corridors: from the live room you see the engineer in the control room, and from the desk you see who is in the booth. Those sight lines save time on overdubs and ensemble takes.

The rooms

Live room, 42 m²

Floor suited to drums, gobos for iso spots, space for up to 5 players. Works for jazz trios, string quartets and band tracking with separation per source.

Vocal booth, 11 m²

Dry acoustics for singing, rap, voice-over and spoken word. One clear room with fixed mic positions, not a booth inside a booth.

Control room

Hybrid setup: faders, outboard inserts and monitors for mix decisions. A second speaker pair for checks before we export files.

Gear in brief

Microphones
About 22 units: large diaphragm for vocals, dynamics for amps and drums, small-diaphragm pairs and ribbon mics where the source asks for it.
Signal path
16 analogue channels to 24-bit conversion; we work at 48 kHz unless your project needs otherwise.
Backline
Bass and guitar amps, DI boxes, headphones and stands. We do not rent full backline guitars; bring your own instrument if that is your sound.

We describe categories rather than brand lists: the choice depends on voice, instrument and desired dynamics. For mix-only work see Mixing; for mastering Mastering.

Team and scheduling

Fleur Dekker leads Molgulaxeno B.V. and is lead engineer on more complex sessions. Tom Willems handles mix and mastering projects; Naomi Pieters coordinates scheduling and client contact. Whoever writes your quote is usually present for setup.
