Mastering

The last listen before your mix goes public: level, translation and export targets for streaming, download or broadcast — unattended or attended in our Westerpark studio.

Mastering engineer listening between two pairs of nearfield speakers.

Mastering is not a single preset — it is a focused pass where we hear your mix in context, adjust where needed and prepare level and filenames for Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, vinyl premaster or broadcast delivery. At Molgulaxeno, mix and mastering engineer Tom Willems handles most unattended work; attended bookings are coordinated by studio producer Naomi Pieters.

You send a stereo mixdown or stem bounce through our agreed upload channel. We work on a dedicated listening chain with two reference monitor pairs and respect your target platform. No mix yet? Book in-studio mixing first or mix elsewhere and hand us only the final pass — if you deliver stems, read stem files before mastering for naming and headroom.

How it works

  1. Brief

Share format, destination (streaming, download, broadcast), references and any ISRC notes. We confirm within 2 working days and schedule the job.

  2. Check-in

We inspect headroom, clicks, silence tails and sample rate. If something blocks a clean master, we contact you before processing — no surprise exports.

  3. Pass

Unattended: Tom masters the track and sends a listen link. Attended: you sit in for two hours and we adjust in real time on your ears.

  4. Delivery

You receive WAV (and MP3 on request), clear filenames and loudness notes. Revisions run by email; project files stay in our archive for 24 months.

Who this is for

Independent artists releasing singles or EPs, producers who mix themselves but want a second room, small labels with tight catalogues and podcast producers who need consistent music beds: our mastering fits projects where the mix is already solid and mainly needs level, translation and format polish.

We master pop, hip-hop, electronic music, jazz and spoken-word with musical backing. Very long ambient pieces or surround jobs need a upfront conversation — hourly or bespoke pricing may fit better than per-track rates.

  • Streaming singles and album tracks
  • EPs up to five songs on the EP rate
  • Attended fine-tuning when you want to listen in the room
  • Broadcast or download-specific targets on request

Unattended vs attended

Unattended mastering means you upload the mix and receive a master for review within a few working days. Pricing is per track or via the EP package. Revisions are written with timestamps — you do not need to travel to Amsterdam.

An attended session reserves two hours at Haarlemmerweg 239. You hear every move, A/B against references and decide final loudness on the spot. The attended rate is €155 incl. VAT; extra time is billed in 15-minute steps after agreement.

Not sure which fits? Use contact with a short note — we will suggest an option without obliging you to book.

What to deliver

Prefer a stereo mixdown in WAV or AIFF, 24 bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz — same rate as your session. Leave roughly 3 to 6 dB peak headroom unless your sound relies on a bus limiter you want to keep.

Delivering stems? Follow stem files before mastering: grouped stems, identical length, no heavy limiter on every stem. Include tempo, key and fade notes. Put ISRC and title in filenames or a short readme file.

StemsWAV, same start, labelled

Loudness and platforms

Streaming services normalise playback; pushing level rarely helps and often hurts. We aim at common integrated targets (around −14 LUFS for many streamers) unless you specify club, broadcast or other goals.

Download or Bandcamp releases can keep a little more peak room. Broadcast deliveries may require strict true-peak caps — we note the values we used so your distributor or cutting engineer can continue.

Revisions and turnaround

Each track or EP price includes 2 revision rounds: email timestamps and what you want changed (more air, less sibilance, different fade). Extra rounds beyond that are quoted per quarter hour or per track.

Typical unattended turnaround is three to five working days after complete delivery, depending on the calendar. Rush may be possible for a surcharge — ask ahead via [email protected]. Attended slots are offered during Tuesday–Friday 09:30–21:00, Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sunday and Monday..

Included and excluded

Included: critical listening on two monitor pairs, EQ and dynamics where needed, EP sequencing notes, export to delivery formats, and project storage for 24 months. Not included: mixing, editing raw recordings, forensic restoration, CD DDP, vinyl cutting or rights registration — those sit outside Mastering.

Need an instrumental master or TV mix? Mention it in the brief; we can often deliver in the same cycle for a small add-on.

FAQ

Should my mix already be mastered?

No — send the mix, not a prior master. A gentle bus compressor is fine if that is your sound; avoid hard clipping.

Do you supply DDP or cut vinyl?

We do not produce DDP or cut lacquer in-house. We can export masters to your plant or cutter specifications.

How do I send large files?

After booking confirmation we send a secure upload link. External drives are welcome for attended sessions at Haarlemmerweg 239.

More than five songs?

Contact us for album pricing. We often combine EP bundles or quote a project fee — transparent on the invoice.

Who masters my track?

Tom Willems handles the technical pass; Naomi Pieters schedules and checks deliveries. Attended sessions are run together in the studio.
