Vocals and speech recording

A treated vocal booth, a choice from roughly 22 microphones and an engineer who guides you take by take — no rushing, clear structure.

At Molgulaxeno on Haarlemmerweg 239 in Amsterdam, the vocal is treated as the first layer of your track. Our 11 m² iso booth sits apart from the live room so you get a neutral, controllable recording that mixes well later. Whether you are tracking a chorus, punching rap verses or recording voice-over for video, the session starts with listening, not with hitting record immediately.

You book Vocals and speech recording by the hour, half day or full day — rates below include 21% VAT. A 40% deposit confirms the date; changes up to 7 days ahead are free under our terms and conditions. Questions about scheduling? Get in touch — we aim to reply within 2 working days.

How it works

  1. Briefing

Send your instrumental, tempo, lyrics and any rough mix in advance. We load the project in the control room before you arrive.

  2. Setup

Microphone comparison, pop filter, headphone mix and levels. Allow fifteen to thirty minutes for a solid starting point.

  3. Tracking

Full passes, then targeted overdubs and ad-libs. The engineer logs take numbers and flags favourites as you go.

  4. Handoff

Comping where agreed, export of dry vocal WAVs and an optional listening mix. Files stay archived with us for 24 months.

Booth layout and signal path

The vocal booth is about 11 m² and sits within 3 rooms at one address. Heavy curtains, broadband panels and a separate iso door keep the space dry enough for rap and spoken word without feeling airless. A window into the control room lets you keep eye contact with the engineer — useful for cues or quick feedback between takes.

We can draw on roughly 22 microphones and 16 preamp channels in the rack. At the start we often compare a condenser for detail, a dynamic for powerful voices or close rap, and sometimes a ribbon for a warmer tone. The choice follows your voice and the song, not a single default chain.

Who this service is for

Solo artists finishing a single, rappers preparing an EP, bands adding vocals after an ensemble session, songwriters with a publisher demo, podcast hosts who want one guest voice captured properly, and video makers who need clean voice-over — the booth covers that range. Minimum age is 16; younger artists need parental consent and an adult present, by arrangement.

Need instrumental tracking without vocals? See other options on services or ask about combining with mixing in the same week.

How a session day runs

Arrive at Haarlemmerweg 239 at the agreed time. We are at Haarlemmerweg 239, a short walk from the Haarlemmerweg stop (GVB bus 22 towards Indische Buurt). From Amsterdam Sloterdijk station, allow about twelve minutes on foot via Haarlemmerweg. On-street paid parking is available; you can park bicycles in front of the building. The studio entrance is at street level beside the wide front windows. Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday 09:30–21:00, Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sunday and Monday. After a short file and goal check you enter the booth; the engineer stays in the control room and handles routing, monitoring and backups.

Take breaks whenever you need — a tired voice rarely yields usable takes. If the session runs more than fifteen minutes beyond booked time, we bill the extra in quarter-hour steps under our overrun article (15 minutes as one unit). Half- and full-day blocks often include more slack; we spell that out in the quote.

What you bring and what we provide

Please prepare:

  • Instrumental or multitrack export (WAV, 24-bit, ideally 48 kHz or your project rate)
  • Lyrics or script, printed or on your device
  • Tempo and key if you know them
  • Two or three reference tracks for vocal tone and space — optional but helpful

We supply headphones, a music stand, water and basic backline if you want a live monitor in the booth. Your own in-ears are welcome. We do not produce custom backing tracks or offer standalone vocal coaching; the engineer can still give technical and artistic feedback if you ask for it.

For overdub planning, see our guide planning vocal overdubs.

Recording formats and delivery

We record 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz by default unless your project needs another sample rate. After the session you receive dry vocal tracks with clear names (for example lead, dub L/R, ad-libs) and a sync point at the start of the song. On request we also deliver the full session folder or a rough mix with instrumental for home listening.

Files go out via secure download link or onto your own drive if you bring one. We keep a backup for 24 months, then delete sessions unless you extend storage. Keep your own copy too. Mixing or mastering after tracking is not part of Vocals and speech recording; those are separate services (mixing, mastering).

Rates and what the price covers

All listed amounts are consumer prices including 21% VAT. Business clients receive an invoice with VAT breakdown; payment is due within 14 days of invoice date unless agreed otherwise.

Typical Vocals and speech recording packages
OptionDurationPrice incl. VAT
Hourly1 hour€98

For one chorus plus verses, most artists allow two to four hours. A half day often fits a complete single with backing vocals; a full day suits several titles or extended comping in the studio.

Not included and next steps

Vocals and speech recording does not include heavy tuning as a default product, hired session musicians, sample clearance for your beat, or distribution to streaming platforms. Pitch correction on request is agreed per session — sometimes we apply light correction on export, sometimes you leave that to the mix engineer.

When vocals are ready, the Molgulaxeno team — including mix engineer Tom Willems — can continue with in-studio mixing or mastering. General questions live on FAQ; for a date, use the contact form or call 020 261 3844.

Booking, cancellation and privacy

Book via contact or phone on 020 261 3844. After we confirm availability, a 40% deposit holds the slot; the balance is due as agreed before or after the session. Cancel at least 7 days ahead and we reschedule free of charge or refund the deposit under the terms.

FAQ

How long does it take to record one song?

For a three- to four-minute pop or rap track, allow two to four hours including setup and a few doubles. Complex arrangements or long comping in the studio may need a half day.

Can I bring someone into the control room?

Yes, one or two people fit comfortably. Larger groups can be distracting; mention it upfront via contact if you expect more visitors.

Do you mix the song as well?

Mixing is a separate service with its own rates on the mix page. You can also mix elsewhere: we deliver clean, well-named tracks.

What if I am ill on session day?

Tell us as early as you can. Cancellations more than 7 days ahead follow our terms; inside that window the deposit may be forfeited or applied once to a new date.

Can you fix my home recordings?

The booth is for on-site tracking. Repair or editing of existing home files is outside Vocals and speech recording; ask for a custom quote if you only need editing.
