Prepare stem files before mastering

Mastering works best from a stable mix with clear stems if you may rebalance later. This guide covers delivery after Mixing or from your own DAW.

Mix bus vs stems

Most releases master from one stereo bus (interleaved WAV/AIFF). Stems—groups like drums, bass, vocals, synths—are optional but help if you need balance tweaks post-master without remixing. Tell us upfront if you might request stem re-exports after the master; that affects how we print intermediate files.

If you send stems, either deliver a final stereo mix or a stem set that sums to the same balance as your reference bounce. Avoid silent pads or duplicate reverbs on every stem unless intentional.

Suggested stem groups

  • Drums (split kick/snare only if the mix demands it)
  • Bass and sub (split for some EDM)
  • Lead and backing vocals
  • Instruments/synths (not twenty ungrouped tracks)
  • FX/sends as one aux when audible in the mix

Podcast or speech usually needs only stereo; see chapter markers in podcast sessions if you mark chapters during recording.

Technical specs

One sample rate end to end (44.1 or 48 kHz; 24-bit WAV preferred). No MP3 between mix and master. All stems same start/end; zero offset.

Attended mastering (€155 for two hours) suits live A-B against references—similar to reference tracks for mix briefings.

Rates and revisions

Per track: €82; EP up to five tracks €280. Mastering revisions: 2 rounds for level/tonal tweaks on the same mix version. A new mix upload is new material.

VAT 21 percent is included in listed prices. Net amounts on request via contact; B2B payment within 14 days.

Delivery and storage

Send via upload link or drive to Haarlemmerweg 239. Before shipping, play all stems together—clicks or phase issues are easier pre-session than after.

We archive masters for 24 months. Request DDP or WAV for distribution in time; see disclaimer for general limits on artwork rights. Label drives clearly if you drop them off in person.

Loudness for streaming

Spotify and peers normalise playback; heavy pre-limiting buys little and restricts tonal work. Say if you want a quieter master than your reference or a compact dance feel.

Broadcast or sync may need other specs—name the platform early. We do not auto-match every regional norm without a brief.

Preparing an attended session

Book attended time if you want to debate micro-dynamics. Bring references on the same medium as the mix (not only Bluetooth). Allow travel: We are at Haarlemmerweg 239, a short walk from the Haarlemmerweg stop (GVB bus 22 towards Indische Buurt). From Amsterdam Sloterdijk station, allow about twelve minutes on foot via Haarlemmerweg. On-street paid parking is available; you can park bicycles in front of the building. The studio entrance is at street level beside the wide front windows..

We are open Tuesday–Friday 09:30–21:00, Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sunday and Monday.; book via contact with track title and target date. 40 percent deposit on first booking per terms and conditions.
